I have to wash my hair at least once a week. Between hot yoga, gel, refreshing and re-moisturizing my curls, and being on the New York City subway, by Day 5, my hair and scalp are begging to be washed.
When sebum, sweat, hair products, and dead skin accumulate on the scalp, it can cause itchiness, flaking, irritation and leave your hair looking limp and greasy. This is why it’s important to wash your hair and scalp regularly with a clarifying shampoo. Clarifying shampoo are deeply cleansing and designed to remove product build up, excess oil and other gunk from the hair and scalp.
Many clarifying shampoos on the market weren’t made with kinky, Afro-textured hair in mind. I tried several that left my hair feeling like straw — dry, stiff, and tangled. For a while, I wasn’t clarifying at all out of fear I would damage my hair. But, I got a free bottle of Carol’s Daughter Wash Day Delight Love At First Wash Water to Foam Shampoo at a launch event a few years ago and that changed everything.
Unlike a lot of other clarifying shampoos on the market, the Carol’s Daughter shampoo is made with gentle ingredients like micellar water and aloe — which my hair loves. It also is sulfate, paraben, and silicone free. This product was specifically formulated and tested on 4C curls.
The bottle comes with a targeted applicator tip, making it extremely easy to direct right onto your scalp. It goes on like water and then turns into a gentle foam. I regularly oil my scalp and this removes all build up. It also has a lot of slip and makes detangling in the shower easy. After, my hair never feels dry and stripped but silky and soft. Most clarifying shampoos are only to be used every two weeks due to the drying effects but this product is part of my weekly wash day routine.
Beyond that, what makes this product a staple in my routine is the price — it’s $11.98 on Amazon. I love that Carol’s Daughter kept the price accessible without compromising on ingredients.
I love the conditioner, too. You can get both the shampoo and conditioner for $19. If you’re building your natural hair routine and don’t want to break the bank, Carol’s Daughter Wash Day delight is affordable for decent sized, high quality products. These products actually live up to their name — they are truly a wash day delight!
