Beyoncé finally has a haircare line and as someone who is always extremely skeptical when a celebrity forays into hair or skincare, I have to admit I’m very excited to try Queen Bey’s products.
The line, Cécred, is launching with a really extensive line of products: a clarifying shampoo, scalp scrub, hydrating shampoo, moisturizing deep conditioner, a reconstructing treatment mask, a moisture-sealing lotion, a hair oil, a “fermented rice ritual treatment,” and a shaker to help you blend the treatment together. According to Essence, the line powered by a patent-pending bioactive keratin ferment, which is infused with honey.
Beyoncé’s hair has been a huge topic of conversation since her career began. Though she is known to have the best wigs money can buy, Beyoncé also has a full head of healthy, long hair. For many people, a Black woman — even one with the resources Beyoncé has — having long hair is shocking. Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, is a licensed cosmetologist and owned a salon when Bey was a child and even made her own products at one point, according to Essence.
The health of Beyoncé’s hair and her mother’s background as a hairdresser adds a layer of credibility to this line. Beyond that though, I’m especially excited for this line because in ways, it’s a very classy nod to haters, not only to her own, but those who came after her daughter Blue Ivy’s hair.
If you don’t remember, back in 2014, trolls went after then two-year-old Blue’s hair, with a grown woman creating a petition calling for Bey and Jay-Z to “comb her hair.” The incident was an ugly reminder of the texturism that runs deep in the Black community. Because Blue’s hair appeared to be a tighter texture, many considered it unkempt for it to be out loose and free.
In a moment of poetic justice and marketing genius, Blue is prominently featured in the promo for the brand. Blue, like her mother, also has beautiful hair.
I’m really excited to try this brand and will do a full review once I’m able to get my hands on it!
