I’m always on the hunt for the best sunscreen.
I have sensitive skin and some of the popular sunscreens on the market make my face breakout and give me red splotches. I also try to only use sunscreens that are cruelty-free and vegan, and don’t have phthalates, sulfates, or parabens.
This is why I’m a huge fan of Kopari Beauty. The brand is very conscious and transparent about the ingredients in their products. l already have their Sun Shield Body Glow SPF 50, which is my absolute favorite to bring on vacation. So, when I saw they came out with the Sun Shield On-The-Glow Sheer Sunscreen Stick SPF 40 which can be used for the face and body, I was intrigued.
This SPF 40 UVA/UVB sunscreen goes for $29 for a one ounce stick, making it pretty expensive. According to the Kopari website, it contains bisobolol and ginger root extract to calm and soothe the skin, and Vitamin E. It also claims to give you a moisturized glow without being oily or greasy.
I put these claims to the test in two scenarios: under makeup in 80 degree Austin, Texas weather and with no makeup on a sunny, 75 degree day in New York City.
First things first: I love the smell of this sunscreen. It has a very nostalgic smell to it — it’s coconutty without being overpowering. While very sparkly in the tube, it doesn’t go on that way, instead it leaves a subtle sparkle. It goes on smooth and left me with a glow that at first, came across as greasy to me. I layered on my makeup, used some setting spray and hoped for the best as I went bar hopping on a hot day in Austin.
I honestly expected to be a greasy mess after stepping into the sun but to my surprise, my makeup held up and I actually had a really beautiful “clean girl” glow. The On-The-Glow stick operated somewhat like a moisturizing makeup primer. The photo above was taken after being out for a few hours.
I then used the On-The-Glow Stick on a bare face while running errands on a warm, sunny day in Manhattan. It definitely gave my naked face a little oomph and the perfect no-makeup, low maintenance, dewy look. The below photo was taken while I sat directly in the sun.
After thoroughly testing it out, the Kopari Sun Shield On-The-Glow Sheer Sunscreen Stick SPF 40 is going to be my go-to face sunscreen this summer. It’s super portable and fits easily in a purse and is great for traveling. I also love the smell and the glow it gives me without making me look greasy. Also, after testing it over a course of several days, I can say it is sensitive skin approved — I didn’t get one breakout from this!
My No BS review is that the On-The-Glow Stick is worth it if you want a dewey, glowy “clean girl” look along with your sun protection. Kopari has another staple with this product.
