I’m extremely skeptical of celebrity beauty brands. Most seem like cash grabs at best and scams at worst. But, Rihanna is different for me. I own many Fenty Beauty makeup products and they live up to the hype. So, when Rihanna announced she was releasing a haircare line, I was excited.
But, because I’m committed to giving real reviews for popular hair and beauty products (and because I’ve been looking for a good gel for the colder months), I picked up the Homecurl Curl-Defining Styling Cream at Sephora.
This styling product has the hydrating effects of a curl cream, while giving you the hold of a gel. The texture is very much like a cream but has the added slip of a gel and has a jelly like feel. I personally prefer softer, fluffier curls compared to the crunch typical gels give me. The product has a really pleasant, fruity smell that my husband — who has a terrible sense of smell — noticed.
I used the Homecurl Curl-Defining Styling cream for a twist out. After washing and conditioning my hair, I applied the gel-cream. The product has excellent slip and immediately made my hair feel sleek and smooth. The silicone-free formula promises to repair split-ends with Replenicore-5, which is Fenty’s proprietary complex that contains Barbados Gooseberry.
I’m overdue for a trim and definitely noticed my raggedy ends were smoothed. To dry my hair, I sat under my hooded dryer. The next morning, I unraveled my twists with some Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil and used my diffuser to dry some spots that were still a bit damp.
My results were fluffy and defined curls with only a little frizz. I did have some flaking but that could be because of the the leave-in conditioner I used not blending well with the gel-cream.
Overall, the Homecurl Curl-Defining Styling Cream is going to be my go to for my twist outs during the colder months. It left my hair feeling soft and moisturized, while still defining my curls. I recommend this product for those who like softer, bouncier curls and don’t mind a bit of frizz.
I’ll be trying some of the other Fenty Hair products soon, so be on the look out for those reviews!
